Lois Jean Scott Obituary - 2021 (2024)

Ms. Lois Jean Scott affectionately known to many as “Jeannie” was born on August 29, 1969 in Austin, Texas to Lee Otis Carter and the late Ms. Lorene Scott. She loved her family, church and was a true Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy fanatic.

She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church by Rev. G.V Clark. Lois served as an usher at Mt. Zion but her ultimate passion was singing at Mount Zion. She later became a member of St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church where Elder Bryon K. Miller was her pastor. At St. Paul PBC she faithfully served in many capacities: Assistant Church Secretary, Choir President, 2nd in Charge of Kitchen staff, and a vital part of the Praise & Worship service of the Virtual Ministry each week. She loved to sing and was active in numerous choir groups thought the Austin area.

Lois attended A.I.S.D. schools and was a dedicated member in many clubs. She was a proud member of The Reagan Raider Marching Band and the Reagan High graduating the Class of 1987. During football season she would write letters to her brother who was in the army just to tell him everybody else far and near; how much better her senior class was at football and ALL sports activities.

She later graduated from Austin Business College and worked as a Law Clerk, Admin / Executive Assistant and Medical Laboratory Assistant for the State of Texas. Coworkers remember her for her singing in the black history programs and her lively personality.

She departed this life on Friday, June 18, 2021. She was preceded in death by her mother Ms. Lorene Scott and grandparents James E. Scott Sr., Erma J. Parks-Scott.

She is survived by her devoted brother Louis (Twanda) Scott, her father Lee Otis Carter; siblings, Min. Trena Carter, Stephanie Jones, Landon Henderson (Blanca), Alejandro Garza Sr., Leah Zamor, and Danielle Carter; one son Cameron Scott, two daughters Courtney (Asha) Scott, Dex’Kia Greathouse and their father Dexter Greathouse; eight grandchildren and host of several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

23rd Psalm

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
